The Wilkins truly captures everything that makes Heathcote a world class producer of premium shiraz – richness, power, intensity and elegance.
The Wilkins Shiraz is only created in years that are exceptional – the result being
the ultimate selection of purity and balance where individual blocks of Shiraz that
have been resting in oak for between 18-24 months are scrutinised relentlessly
until it is agreed that they meet the criteria of ‘Iconic’.
Two barrels are selected with the sole purpose of complementing one
another based on fruit vibrancy, complexity of flavour and tannin definition.
A deep dark colour achieved through whole berry fermentation and the
slow extraction of colour compounds over a period of ten days ensures
that first impressions count.
Due to this high bar, the 2019 Wilkins Shiraz is only the 6th vintage to meet our demanding quality benchmark.
The result is a wine with aromatic intensity with dark berries, fruit
cake spice and a smattering of dark chocolate and freshly ground
coffee. The palate is textured and complex with structural
chalky tannins supporting a backbone of acidity, syrupy
complexity and a palate persistence that is unforgettable.
